2026 Food Security Week! Everybody Eats
Food Security Week: Collaborative Advocacy for Stronger Food Systems in Alaska
During the second week of February each year, food systems advocates from across Alaska gather in Juneau to connect with state lawmakers on food policy. Together, we coordinate individual schedules throughout the week that keeps the message coming into the state capitol – Everyone Eats!
AFPC’s 2026 Leave Behind One-Page
Each year is a little different, but the general schedule of the week is outlined below.
Monday: Alaska Food Coalition advocacy training & meetings (continues through the early part of the week)
Tuesday – Wednesday – Thursday: Various partners in Juneau conducting Legislative meetings, attending Committee meetings, presenting at hearings, attending a Floor session
Wednesday or Thursday Breakfast: Joint breakfast with cross-sector partners for networking and connection
Wednesday Evening: Joint Reception to mix and mingle with Legislators on all things food!
During Food Security Week, the halls of the Capitol Building are brimming with food and farm advocates from across Alaska including: Food Bank of Alaska, Alaska Food Coalition, Alaska Farm Bureau, the Alaska Farmers Market Association, the Alaska Farmland Trust, University of Alaska Fairbanks Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources & Extension, FFA, and others!
At AFPC, we have three primary goals during Food Security Week:
- Growing Strength As Advocates – Our policy priorities are drawn from our community’s and the voices and needs of Alaskans. Helping each other get to the Capitol and learn to effectively advocate helps move the needle for stronger food systems for all Alaskans.
- Raising Awareness With Legislators – We are the experts in many of these policy areas; showing up in Juneau and being a known and personal resource to our legislators is invaluable.
- Improving Alaska’s Food Systems – Helping Alaska’s legislators make decisions with the information they need to improve our food systems, across sectors and for all Alaskans.
Our staff are available to help you understand the opportunities and logistics for effective advocacy in Juneau. Reach out and let us know how we can help, and we hope to see you in the halls of the Capitol Building!
