The Alaska Food Systems Network Gathering brings together Alaska’s food community every quarter. These are hosted by the Alaska Food Policy Council. Our intention is for these meetups to foster collaboration, share best practices, and tackle Alaska’s unique food challenges and opportunities.
Our next gathering is on July 24 from 11:30 AM to 1 PM via Zoom.
Each meetup features a different focus, and the webinars are based on the interests expressed to us by current Alaska Food System Network members. For our summer quarter’s gathering, we are planning a cook-along featuring Chef Zeynep’s Çılbır (Turkish poached eggs) and a screening of “Growing Community: an Indigenous-led farmer training program in Alaska” by Alaska Native filmmaker, Gabe Derrick. The Alaska Food Systems Network Gathering brings together Alaska’s food community every quarter. These are hosted by the Alaska Food Policy Council. Our intention is for these meetups to foster collaboration, share best practices, and tackle Alaska’s unique food challenges and opportunities.
Our gathering was on April 30 from 11:30 AM to 1 PM via Zoom.
Each meetup features a different focus, and the webinars are based on the interests expressed to us by current Alaska Food System Network members. This quarter, we were joined by guest speaker Marysia Szymkowiak from NOAA. She presented on the community adaptation planning effort. Her email is marysia.szymkowiak@noaa.gov.

These were born from a desire for more frequent food system connections. Our intention is for these meetups to foster collaboration, share best practices, and tackle Alaska’s unique food challenges and opportunities.
Our gathering was on January 23rd from 11:30 AM to 1 PM via Zoom.
Each meetup features a different focus and the webinars will be based on the interests expressed to us by current Alaska Food System Network members. This quarter, we were joined by guest speakers from the Alaska Division of Agriculture and the Alaska Small Business Development Center who shared information about some of the grant opportunities they offer.

October Alaska Food System Network Gathering
The Alaska Food System Network Gathering brings together Alaska’s food community every quarter. These are hosted by the Alaska Food Policy Council. Our intention is for these gatherings to connect community leaders, farmers, food businesses, enthusiasts, and everyone in between. These were born from a desire for more frequent food system connections. October was the first of our meetings and our intention is for these meetups to foster collaboration, share best practices, and tackle Alaska’s unique food challenges and opportunities.
Our gathering was on October 3rd from 11:30 AM to 1 PM via Zoom.
Each meetup features a different focus and the webinars will be based on the interests expressed to us by current Alaska Food System Network members. To kick things off, we hosted an Advocacy 101 webinar with Alaska Food Policy Council’s Policy & Advocacy Director, Rachel Lord, and an educational presentation on HB251, the “Homemade Food Rule,” with Lorinda Lhotka from the Alaska DEC.

Reimbursement Transportation Cost Payment (RTCP) webinar
The Alaska Food Policy Council’s Regional Food Business Center hosted a Reimbursement Transportation Cost Payment (RTCP) webinar for farmers as part of their Technical Assistance capacity-building program. This program is an incredible money-saving opportunity for Alaskan farmers and ranchers to get a fixed amount of their transportation costs reimbursed by the USDA.

Lending Opportunities for AK Farmers
Did you know there are four lending options to finance your farm operation, equipment, or land purchases? We want to ensure every Alaskan farmer knows about their options. So, AFPC hosted a webinar to help you find the right fit for your farm. We were able to get info directly from all 4 of the lending agencies and have your questions answered.
What is the Agricultural Revolving Loan Fund
