In March of 2025, we celebrated our 8th Alaska Food Festival & Conference in the Kodiak Marketplace. Our generous and skilled on-the-ground planning partners for this event included the Kodiak Harvest Food Cooperative who, among other things, organized the festive and delicious Homemade Food Fair. We are sharing this exciting update from KHFC with you, and invite you to learn more about our next conference taking place October 16-18, 2026, in Fairbanks.

Kodiak Harvest Food Cooperative reopened in the downtown Kodiak Marketplace at the beginning of March, marking a major milestone in the cooperative’s continued growth and service to the community. Excitement was palpable as a large crowd gathered for a ribbon cutting and Grand Opening ceremony.
“We are so incredibly thankful for the steadfast support of our community and our shared dream of sustainably and meaningfully increasing food security on our island”, said Kodiak Harvest leadership.
Founded in 2016, Kodiak Harvest Food Cooperative began as a grassroots effort to improve access to local and healthy food on Kodiak Island. The cooperative first sold memberships, then operated pop-up produce stands around town, and opened its first brick-and-mortar grocery store in 2021. Since then, Kodiak Harvest has grown steadily – and finally outgrowing its first location.
“This move begins a new chapter of growth and opportunity for our beloved community food co-op,” said Kodiak Harvest leadership. “We are thrilled to be joining the downtown Kodiak Marketplace and to expand what we can offer our members and customers.” The cooperative will grow incrementally into new opportunities, including three times the retail space, an upcoming deli, and returning to hosting community events.
The Kodiak Marketplace is home to other treasured local businesses, creating a vibrant community hub and a convenient, one-stop shopping experience for residents and visitors alike.
At its core, Kodiak Harvest Food Cooperative continues to prioritize what has always defined it: quality organic and local produce and products that support health, vibrancy, and community wellbeing. In the new location, customers can find:
- An expanded selection of organic and local produce
- A curated range of high-quality, healthy, and sustainable foods
- A significantly expanded bulk foods section, offering a wide array of zero-waste and budget-friendly options for families
- Continued and steady expansion of local seafood offerings
- The addition of a deli, featuring quality prepared and ready-to-eat foods
- A large selection of everyday staples designed to meet a wide range of budgets while maintaining quality
Alongside exciting growth, Kodiak Harvest remains committed to its small-town cooperative atmosphere. “Our store is a community made up of our members, our team, our vendors, and our shoppers,” leadership noted. “That local feel and flavor will always be at the heart of who we are.” Kodiak Harvest Food Cooperative continues to operate with a local Board of Directors, a supportive membership, and a passionate co-op team dedicated to good food and a strong, connected community.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received over the years,” the cooperative shared. “As we move into this exciting new chapter, we look forward to growing together with the Kodiak community.”
