Overview
The mission of the Alaska Mariculture Alliance (AMA) is “to develop and support a robust and sustainable mariculture industry for the long-term benefit of Alaska’s economy, environment, and communities.”
The Communications Manager will provide strategic direction and leadership for all communications and outreach strategies, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement with key stakeholders across various channels. The Communications Manager will oversee the Mariculture Liaison Program and will provide oversight, direction, and mentoring for subcontracting agencies that conduct outreach and engagement on behalf of the Alaska Mariculture Cluster (AMC). This position is responsible for the implementation and coordination of AMA’s Public Relations, Outreach, and Engagement Plan. This position will be responsible for building out communications processes and digital strategies.
Position reports to AMA’s Executive Director.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
● Develop and implement AMA’s overall communications strategy and program-related campaigns.
● Manage AMA’s online presence including social media platforms, newsletters, and websites.
● Manage AMA’s Mariculture Liaison Program. Manages Program activities; oversees logistical and administrative support for program activities; submits quarterly progress reports and final reports.
● Conduct planning and needs assessment with input from Mariculture Liaisons, community leaders, program staff, funding and program partners, and other rural service providers.
● Oversee the coordination of program activities, including collaboration with liaisons and program partners, design of educational materials and training events, ordering and shipment of program supplies.
● Document program activities; manages the collection of information and prepares reports to meet program reporting requirements; coordinates program evaluation activities and reporting requirements, including monthly AMA Board reports, quarterly Alaska Mariculture Cluster (AMC) Governing Body reports, and other funding source reports.
● Works with the Executive Director to design and implement new or expanded outreach projects or programs based on AMA and/or industry needs and community feedback. Participate in program-related conferences, networking events and workshop presentations.
● Draft internal and external communications products including talking points, messaging documents, press releases, fact sheets, and other materials necessary for media interaction and event interactions.
● Manage the production and distribution of periodic bulletins or newsletters, educational, promotional, and other program materials; works with community leaders, program staff and funding sources to publicize and promote program activities and accomplishments.
● Participate in regular AMA board and committee meetings; strategic planning meetings; AMC meetings; and other planning and administrative committees, as requested.
● Develop and maintain an organized communications management system, including files, electronic records, and photo library.
● Perform other duties to support the organization.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a remote, full-time exempt position.
Pay will be provided on a pro-rata basis, paid semi-monthly.
Fringe benefits will include the following: 30 days of paid time off (which includes vacation, sick and holidays), 3% matching contribution to a simple IRA retirement account, and $500 per month health insurance reimbursement.
The position is funded through fall of 2026, with the option to extend your employment based on availability of funds and/or performance results.
