SEF is thrilled to join forces with the Native American Agriculture Fund (NAAF) to launch the Green Horizons Project—a powerful funding opportunity designed to empower Tribal governments. This initiative provides essential capital and capacity-building support to drive environmental sustainability in Native agricultural and food systems. Together, we’re accelerating existing efforts that provide support for Tribal agricultural producers implementing sustainable practices on farms and ranches.

Eligibility

Green Horizons is an opportunity targeted for state and federally recognized Tribal governments. To determine eligibility, we reference the Federal Register’s list of federally recognized Tribes and each state’s list of state recognized Tribes. The lead applicant must be a Tribal government. To be considered the lead applicant, an entity must serve as the project lead/key personnel for the project, have oversight of the budget, and be the primary contact with SEF throughout the duration of the grant. Tribal governments may choose to partner with other entities including but not limited to 501(c)(3) organizations, educational organizations, and community/grassroots coalitions.

Opportunity

Grants are for $40,000 for a period of 12 months beginning October 1, 2025.

The Green Horizons Request for Applications (RFA) will fund Tribal governments to assist Tribal producers with implementing sustainable agricultural practices. This opportunity is best suited for Tribes that have an existing program and would like to amplify their impact with additional resources. We encourage projects that integrate traditional ecological knowledge while addressing elements of sustainable agriculture.

SEF seeks proposals that are collaborative, creative, and community oriented, and work toward rapid deployment of sustainable agricultural practices. The range of outputs acceptable for this category include agricultural/ecological restoration, program delivery, and capacity/skill building. Grant funds may be used for personnel, direct, and indirect expenses that contribute to projects on the ground. Although projects must be led by a Tribal government, the scope of work is not limited to only serving the Tribal members of that government. Each applicant is asked to identify the population of service that fits within the project vision. SEF’s objective is to provide funding for Tribal governments to amplify the reach of their existing sustainable agriculture work.
