Session #1: Beginning Farmer Training for Rural Communities
Training Dates: June 22-25, 2026
Application Period: March 2-31, 2026
Led by Indigenous farmers in partnership with the farmers at Calypso Farm, this hands-on program will teach participants how to grow vegetables in a way that is transferable to village communities.
This training will cover the following basic topics:
- Seed starting
- Preparing garden beds & transplanting plants
- Cultivation & garden management
- Water systems & irrigation
- Composting
- Using what you have on site to build the health of your soils
- Animal husbandry: keeping sheep, goats and chickens
- Beekeeping basics
Location: Trainings are held at Calypso Farm in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Session #2: Native Plants
Training Dates: August 10-13, 2026
Application Period: March 2-31, 2026
Led by Indigenous farmers in partnership with the farmers at Calypso Farm, this hands-on program will have a stronger focus on native plants, covering topics such as:
- Identifying & incorporating native plants into the garden
- Cultivation & garden management
- Exploring medicinal uses
- Discussing historical value/purposes
- Using native plants in your area to build healthy soils on your site
