The Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station includes two locations in Fairbanks and Palmer and is part of the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension at University of Alaska Fairbanks. This position will primarily be located in Fairbanks, but occasional travel to other field sites may be required intermittently. The AFES (Fairbanks) is hiring a Research Technician (Research Technician 3 position) to fulfill the role of Research Crew Lead. This is a term-funded,10-month benefited position running approximately from March – December. The primary objective of this position is to work closely with AFES Research faculty to meet the objectives of multiple grant-funded research projects relating to high-latitude agricultural and food systems research. This position will include assisting PI with scheduling seasonal field staff, overseeing day-to-day field operations, maintaining field research plots, data collection and analysis and occasional outreach and education events.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative worker, comfortable in remote field locations and well versed in project and data management, statistical, and scientific writing. This position requires someone capable of working in small teams and independently. The candidate should possess excellent writing and communication skills. This position requires someone willing to conduct and lead agricultural field research in variable outdoor conditions. Previous experience working on a farm/growing vegetables is highly applicable to this role. The candidate should have experience managing, analyzing, interpreting, and displaying agricultural data. The candidate should have experience and be willing to communicate research findings to diverse audiences and implement outreach and training activities.
