Melissa’s journey to becoming a celebrated chef and restaurateur in Kodiak began in her childhood, growing up in the small village of Old Harbor. “Cooking has always been a passion of mine,” she explains. “I grew up in the kitchen with my mom, siblings, and relatives. Food was at the center of everything we did as a family.” This deep connection to food and community shaped Melissa’s path.

Each month, we are introducing one of AFPC’s conference planning partners. Kodiak Harvest Food Co-op (KHFC) is a cooperatively owned business with nearly 700 members. KHFC’s mission is to “provide Kodiak communities with quality food choices that are locally sourced, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible while promoting education and engagement.”
AFPC engages with local planning partners from the communities where we host events, and we are grateful for Kodiak’s strong support. Today we are spotlighting our 2025 Alaska Food Festival and Conference planning partners, Kodiak Area Native Association.
We are excited to build upon this year’s theme – Community Table: Collaboration for a Sustainable Food Future. Planning the conference is a collaborative process, and AFPC relies on the energy, ideas, and connections of our Alaskan food systems community including our planing partners at Kodiak Archipelago Leadership Institute.
