Advocacy Working Group
Collaborating for good food policy.

This working group follows issues that strengthen food systems for all Alaskans and engages with policymakers and the public to share information and increase awareness.
Joining this collaborative advocacy working group ensures more voices are represented in decision-making around food security by bringing together diverse perspectives from different communities, sectors, and experiences. This group works on shared interests, such as improving food access, supporting local agriculture, and addressing food insecurity. Collaborative advocacy also amplifies marginalized voices, ensuring solutions reflect the needs of everyone, not just a few. This inclusive approach leads to more equitable and effective policies that benefit the entire state. With Alaska’s unique food security challenges, including its remote geography and reliance on imported food, a collective effort is critical to building sustainable, resilient food systems that work for all Alaskans.
This working group helps to inform the policy and advocacy work of AFPC staff and Governing Board, including making recommendations on our Policy Framework, supporting Food Security Week, and Get Out the Vote work during election years. The Advocacy Working Group also develops a candidate survey for statewide elections as a way to inform voters about how Alaskan candidates feel about food systems issues.
If interested in being involved in AFPC Advocacy efforts please sign up and we will get back to you. Meetings are every 2nd Thursday from 12-1pm AKT.
