We’re pleased to announce our 2021 Summer Intern, Alexis Berard. She’s joining us remotely from New England and caries a passion for food systems inquiry. She’ll be working on a variety of projects over the next two months, including researching cottage food, food freedom, and home kitchen sales policies around the nation, investigating food organization funding opportunities, and will help us get our website and outreach tools more organized and updated. “My name is Alexis Berard, and I am from Farmington, Connecticut. I am a rising junior at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and I am majoring in political science. On campus, I am a tour guide and a member of the Feminist Forum. Under the umbrella of political science, I have been drawn to food and agriculture policy. I enjoy learning about the intersections between individual health, the environment, and local, state, and federal policies and how these intersections impact the lives of farmers, the public, as well as people’s access to goods. I am so excited to be interning at the Alaska Food Policy Council as it will help me not only learn about the food system in Alaska but also the ways people involved with the food system form communities through the Council and are impacted by those intersections.”
